The Easiest Way to Pay Less
If you're carrying home insurance with one company, auto with another, and maybe a separate flood policy somewhere else, you're almost certainly paying more than you need to.
Bundling (also called a multi-policy discount) means placing two or more policies with the same carrier. The carrier rewards you with a discount, typically 5–25% off both policies. For a Louisiana family with a home and two cars, that can mean $400–$1,000 in annual savings with zero change in coverage.
How Bundling Discounts Work
When you carry multiple policies with the same insurer, they give you a lower rate because:
- You're less likely to switch. Carriers value retention, and bundled customers rarely leave.
- Lower administrative costs. One customer file instead of two separate ones.
- Better risk profile. Statistically, bundled customers file fewer claims.
The discount applies to each policy in the bundle. So if you bundle home and auto, you save on both, not just one.

What Can You Bundle?
Most carriers offer discounts for combining any two or more of these:
| Policy Combination | Typical Discount |
|---|---|
| Home + Auto | 10–25% |
| Renters + Auto | 5–15% |
| Home + Auto + Umbrella | 15–25% |
| Home + Auto + Life | 10–20% |
| Home + Auto + Flood (select carriers) | 5–15% |
| Condo + Auto | 10–20% |
The home + auto bundle is the most common and usually offers the largest discount. Adding an umbrella policy on top often costs very little because the bundle discount offsets most of the premium.
You Don't Have to Use the Same Company
Here's something most people don't realize: as an independent agency, we can bundle your home and auto with different carriers and still get you a bundled discount. Most captive agents can only offer the bundle if everything is under one roof. We have carrier partnerships that let us mix and match, so you get the best rate on each policy while still saving on the bundle.
That means if Carrier A has the best home rate and Carrier B has the best auto rate, we don't have to choose. You can have both and still get the multi-policy savings.
When Bundling Doesn't Make Sense
Bundling saves most people money, but not always. Here are the exceptions:
When one carrier is significantly cheaper for a specific line. If Carrier A is $800/year cheaper on your home insurance but only offers a $200 bundle discount, you're better off splitting the policies. We run both scenarios for every client.
When you have a unique risk profile. Some carriers specialize in certain coverages like coastal homes, high-value properties, classic cars. The specialist might beat the bundled rate even without a discount.
When you're in a high-risk flood zone. Flood insurance pricing through the NFIP is standardized regardless of bundling. Private flood carriers may offer a discount, but it varies.
This is exactly why working with an independent agent matters. We're not locked into one carrier, so we can test every combination to find the cheapest total.
Real Example: A Baton Rouge Family
Here's what bundling looked like for one of our recent clients, a family in the Shenandoah neighborhood:
Before (separate carriers):
- Home insurance: $3,200/year (Carrier A)
- Auto insurance (2 vehicles): $4,800/year (Carrier B)
- Total: $8,000/year
After (bundled with Carrier C):
- Home insurance: $2,900/year
- Auto insurance (2 vehicles): $4,100/year
- Total: $7,000/year
Savings: $1,000/year. Same coverage, same deductibles. The bundle discount plus the fact that Carrier C was competitive on both lines made the difference.
We also added a $1 million umbrella policy for $500/year, which was partially offset by an additional multi-policy credit.
How to Get Started
If you already have one policy with us, we can quote additional lines in about 15 minutes. If you're new to Chabert Insurance, send us your current policy declarations pages (the summary sheet your carrier sends each renewal) and we'll compare your current setup against bundled options across our 40+ carriers.
There's no cost to quote, and no pressure to switch if your current setup is already optimal. But in our experience, about 7 out of 10 Louisiana families save money by bundling, and many don't realize how much until they see the numbers side by side.
