// MOTORCYCLE INSURANCE
Louisiana's year-round riding season is one of the best things about living here. But more time on the road means more exposure to distracted drivers, rough roads, and sudden storms. We compare motorcycle insurance rates from multiple carriers so you can ride with the right coverage at a price that makes sense.

Riding a motorcycle in Baton Rouge is different from riding almost anywhere else. You're sharing the road with distracted drivers on I-10 and I-12, dodging potholes on Airline Highway, and dealing with rain that rolls in with no warning from April through October.
On top of that, about 1 in 8 Louisiana drivers has no insurance at all. In a car, that's a bad situation. On a motorcycle, it can be devastating. There's no frame around you, no airbags, no crumple zones. Injuries from motorcycle accidents are almost always more serious, and the medical bills add up fast.
A lot of riders assume their car insurance covers their motorcycle. It doesn't. Motorcycle insurance is a separate policy with its own coverage types, limits, and pricing. Getting the right policy in place before you ride is one of the smartest things you can do.
// WHAT'S COVERED
If you cause an accident while riding, liability pays for the other person's injuries and property damage. Louisiana requires the same 15/30/25 minimums for motorcycles as cars. Those minimums won't go far in a serious crash. Most of our riders carry much higher limits.
Covers damage to your bike when you hit another vehicle or object, regardless of who caused it. If you're financing your motorcycle, your lender requires it. Even if you own it outright, collision is worth keeping on any bike you can't afford to replace. Some carriers also include an OEM parts guarantee, which means damaged original manufacturer parts get replaced with genuine OEM parts at no extra cost.
Handles everything that isn't a collision: theft, vandalism, hail, falling trees, and flooding. In South Louisiana, this isn't optional. A single hail storm or flash flood in a parking lot can total a motorcycle faster than a car. For newer motorcycles (up to one model year old), some carriers offer total loss coverage that can pay the MSRP of a current model year replacement instead of the depreciated value.
About 1 in 8 Louisiana drivers has no insurance. On a motorcycle, you don't have a car frame protecting you. If an uninsured driver hits you, this coverage pays for your injuries and damages. You can legally reject UM in Louisiana, but we'd strongly recommend against it.
Pays medical bills for you and your passenger after an accident, no matter who caused it. Motorcycle accidents tend to cause more serious injuries than car accidents. Med pay fills the gap while liability claims get sorted out.
Many motorcycle policies include $3,000 of accessory coverage at no extra cost when you carry physical damage coverage. If you've gone beyond that with custom exhaust, saddlebags, chrome, or audio equipment, additional coverage up to $30,000 is available. Some policies also cover safety riding apparel like helmets, jackets, boots, and gloves, with options up to $3,000 that pay dollar-for-dollar replacement cost with no depreciation. You can even get carried contents coverage for personal items like hunting or camping gear that's damaged or stolen from the bike during a covered loss.
Motorcycle insurance rates vary a lot from one carrier to the next. We've seen the same rider get quotes that differ by hundreds of dollars for the exact same coverage. The problem is that most people only check one or two companies and call it done.
We're an independent agency on Sherwood Forest Blvd in Baton Rouge. That means we don't work for one carrier. We work for you. When you call us, we run your information through multiple carriers at once and show you the options side by side. Same coverages, different prices. You pick the one that fits.
We also know what Louisiana riders actually deal with. Potholes on Plank Road. Gravel on the shoulder coming off the I-10/I-12 split. Afternoon downpours in Prairieville that turn a dry ride into a slick one in five minutes. We factor all of that into your coverage recommendations so you're not caught off guard.
There are also coverages a lot of riders don't know exist. Trip interruption coverage can help with lodging, transportation, and meals if your bike breaks down or has a covered loss more than 100 miles from home. If you trailer your motorcycle to events or track days, transport trailer coverage can protect the trailer itself with up to $10,000 in physical damage coverage. These aren't things you'll find on every policy, but they're available through some of the carriers we work with.
If you already insure a car with us, bundling your motorcycle onto a multi-vehicle policy can save you money on both. Even if your car is with another company, we can quote both at the same time and show you what bundling looks like.
And if something goes wrong, your carrier's claims line is always the fastest way to get the process started. But if you have questions about what's covered, need help understanding the process, or just want someone to talk it through with, you can call us at (225) 395-4000. That's what having a local agent means.

// RATE FACTORS
A few things determine how much you pay for motorcycle insurance in Baton Rouge:
Sport bikes cost more to insure because they're faster and involved in more accidents statistically. Cruisers and touring bikes are generally cheaper. A Harley-Davidson Road King will cost less to insure than a Yamaha R6.
A clean driving record gets you the best rates. One at-fault accident or speeding ticket can push your premium up significantly. Some carriers also offer discounts for completing a motorcycle safety course.
Your zip code matters. Riders in Denham Springs pay different rates than riders in the Garden District. Areas with higher accident rates and theft are more expensive.
Many policies include $3,000 of accessory coverage at no extra cost. If you've invested beyond that in aftermarket upgrades, additional coverage up to $30,000 is available and will increase your premium slightly. Coverage for riding apparel and carried contents like camping or hunting gear can also factor in.
Higher deductibles lower your premium. Bundling your motorcycle with car insurance or homeowners insurance can save 5-15%. Some carriers also offer seasonal or lay-up discounts if you store your bike during winter months.
